Today, being online means more than just your computer. It now means your cell phone. Connecting to facebook, myspace (whatever happened to them), linkedin, twitter, etc. have all become a part of our culture.
The immediate impulse for results and the anxiousness to find out "WHATS GOING ON" is uncanny like never before.
If you sit in a cubicle and are not located near a window, social networking is your key to what is going on outside.
However, if your networking on company time chances are you will be caught whether on their computer or your cell phone. Depending on your position you may or may not be able to get away with it.
In all honesty it is in your best interest to stay off of any company's computer while on a social networking site. If you don't log off properly chances are someone can view your information and that can be devastating. If your on a social networking site such as facebook because its so widely known a co-worker walking past your desk could automatically know what site your on. Its not like myspace where you can customize your page to your style.
Here is a word of advice. Keep social networking while on company time on your cell phone until you get home. Easier said then done. Then go here if your bored.
